At first, many parents think: Why do I need boarding school counselling? Then you start surfing the Internet and realize that the choice of boarding schools or private schools is vast. The Internet, reference books and school brochures offer a wealth of information. How should you evaluate them? How are you supposed to know what is hidden behind a glossy façade or whether the boarding school is as good as its perhaps perfectly designed website?

The Internet lists more than 200 German boarding schools. In England, there are almost 2,000 – an overwhelming variety.

Searchingfor a boarding school abroad

Because a successful school career today often involves spending part of one's school career abroad, Toechter und Soehne will also accompany you in your search for a boarding school in another country. If you are interested in a boarding school in England or an international boarding school in Switzerland, our support is generally more intensive and time-consuming than a search for a boarding school in Germany.

This is all the more true if you are considering schools in countries that require a visa to attend school, as is the case for boarding schools in Canada or the USA and now also in the UK. Although the initial consultation is also free of charge here, the additional work involved means that we charge a fee for the search abroad in the further course of the consultation. When looking for a boarding school abroad, there is so much more to consider than just finding the right school:

• should it be a shorter stay of one or two terms or semesters?
• what do I need to bear in mind when opting out of my current German school?
• how does re-integration into the German school system work when you return?
• are you perhaps even considering a school-leaving qualification such as the English A-levels, the American High School Diploma or even the IB?
• if so, how and where are the foreign qualifications recognized?
• under what conditions can they be used to study in Germany?
